Why is the dragon the only creature of mythology in the Chinese zodiac?

The 12 signs of the Chinese Zodiac are:

Rat - Ox - Tiger - Rabbit - Dragon - Snake - Horse - Sheep/Ram - Monkey - Rooster - Dog - Pig -

Every one of those creatures is a known living creature, except the Dragon, which most people consider to be a mythological creature.

Is there something significant about this?|||The Lungs (dragons) bones were found in China long before the word Dinosaur or even the English Language. The Chinese Language was in use and written long before the people of Europe had a written language. This is also true of the a Zodiac, that existed before anything close was created in the West.|||Probably because the Dragon a purely mythical creature represents ones enter strength (spiritual power), after all its the best # 1 sign in that Chinese zodiac.

Incidentally, that walking, talking once breathing martial artist Bruce Lee also called the "Dragon" was indeed born in the month of the Dragon too...

Something that should not be overlooked, which obviously gave him quite an advantage over the rest of us struggling to succeed martial artists|||Yes it proves the point further that dragons maybe real. Think about it almost every major culture around the world has myths or legends of these creatures. I personally believe they have and do exist.|||The Ancient Chinese did not consider Dragons to be a myth!|||many people believe they were real in history
